VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR OMAHA CLASSIC\

If you have ever wondered what the Omaha Classic does with the 1,000 volunteers they need, here are some of the categories where they need your help. If you live in the Omaha area please call the Volunteer Hotline at 329-4979. If you live outside the Omaha area you need to dial 712-329-4979.

INFORMATION CENTER

Times: Morning 6:30a &endash; 12:30p, Afternoon 12:00p &endash; 7:00p

Responsible for directing spectators and volunteers to areas of the golf course. Will need to communicate with security, first aid and volunteer central. Communicate with volunteer director for up to date information regarding play and delays

MARSHAL

Times: Morning: 6:30a &endash; 1:30p, Afternoon: noon &endash; close

The marshal's responsibilities consist of providing control over the gallery, cross walks, ball spotting, competent maintenance for every hole and moving throughout the course during every day of tournament play. This is a standing and/or walking position.

WALKING SCORER

Full Round &endash; approximately 4-6 hrs.

Walking Scorers will keep scores and statistics for golfers throughout their entire round of golf. Golf experience is necessary. Volunteer must be able to walk 18 holes for duration of up to 6 hours. Must be at least 18 years of age.

STANDARD BEARER

Full Round &endash; approximately 4-6 hrs.

This is considered a "physical" position, as you will carry a sign for an entire round of golf (approximately 5 hours). We recomend that you should be in good physical health when volunteering as a standard bearer.

GREENSIDE REPORTER

Morning: 6:30a &endash; 1:00p, Afternoon: noon &endash; 6:30p

Greenside reporters will sit greenside on each hole and report finishing scores of each player at their assigned hole via hand-held computer system (computer experience not necessary.)

RUNNERS

Morning: 10:00a &endash; 3:00p, Afternoon: 2:00p &endash; 6:00p

This is considered a physical position, which involves running player scorecards from the finishing tents to the PGA TOUR TRUCK and leader boards. Runners will not be required to purchase uniform packages. T-shirts will be provided. Hats may be purchased at a cost of $10.

Runners are youth volunteers, must be at least 12 yrs. of age.

ON-COURSE CONCESSIONS

Thurs/Fri. Morning: 6:00a &endash; 1:00p Afternoon: 12:00p &endash; 6:00p

Sat/Sun. Morning: 7:00a &endash; 1:00p Afternoon: 12:00p &endash; 6:00p

Set-up, distribution, sales, and clean up of concession stands, corporate tents, and skyboxes. These volunteers will be responsible for handling money and beverages. Must be at least 21 years of age.

THE GOLF CHANNEL : Full Round Spotters/Scorers

Volunteer can choose day(s) between Thursday through

Sunday to volunteer. Volunteers must be able to work

9:00a &endash; 6:00p (approximate).

Relay to The Golf Channel Associate Producer information regarding scores, playing order on the fairway, etc. Microphone Operators: Positioned throughout the course to be near players to record sounds of golfers and shots. A basic knowlege of golf etiquette & scoring needed, and availability to work a full round of golf. Must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers can choose day(s) between Thursday through Sunday or all four (4) days.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Morning: 6:30a &endash; 1:00p Afternoon: 12:00p &endash; 6:30p

Evening: 6:30p &endash; 1:00a Saturday only

These events include clinics, networking parties, fireworks display and Drive, Chip and Putt Contest. Volunteers will be needed to manage crowds, hand out gifts, set-up and tear down the events.

ON-COURSE SERVICES

Morning: 5:30a &endash; 12:00p Afternoon: 12:00p&endash; 7:00p

Responsible for set-up prior to the event and tear down on Sunday after the conclusion of the event. Responsible for removing refuse from the entire course during tournament week. Helping to maintain appearance of course and parking areas.

ADMISSIONS

Morning 7:00a &endash; 12:00p, or 12:00p &endash; 5:00p

Responsible for ticket sales at admission gates, off-course parking lots, and clubhouse.

SECURITY

Morning 5:00a &endash; 1:00p Afternoon 12:00p &endash; 8:00p

Responsible for security at various locations throughout the tournament facilities, giving the volunteer the chance to interact with the Players, Tour Officials, Media and Clubhouse personnel. This important position is necessary to maintain the professional atmosphere of the PGA TOUR. Must be 19 years of age.

PLAYER REGISTRATION

Morning: 7:00a &endash; 12:00p Afternoon: 12:00p &endash; 5:00p

Staffing the Player Registration Desk and distributing tournament information. Previous Player Registration experience is helpful along with good customer service skills. Good communication and organization skills are required. Must be at least 21 years of age to staff this position.

SHUTTLES (for players)

Morning: 9:00a &endash; 1:30p Afternoon: 1:00p &endash; 7:00p

Shuttling players and caddies from Hole 18 to Hole 1 and to the Clubhouse.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

FINISHING TENTS

Morning: 9:00a &endash; 3:00p Afternoon: 2:00p &endash; 8:00p

Verify scorecards of players and walking scorers on Hole 9 and 18. Assist with supervision of Runners.

DAYCARE

Aug. 5: 5:30p - 9:00p

Aug. 6 - 10: 9:00a - 5:00p

Inside daycare management of players children. Activity planning, meal preparation and general daycare responsibilities. Daycare chairperson needed to assist with volunteer support. The daycare is an excellent choice for a group or organization to volunteer together. Must be at least 16 years of age.

• What is up with Tiger Woods? Is there anyone out there who sees a different Tiger the last few months? Something is wrong and it's not getting fixed. Not just his game, but, the way is acting on and off the course. Watch him and you'll see what I mean.

• Metropolitan Tee Times would like to welcome J.P. Waldron to Omaha. J.P. is the new Head Golf Professional at Tiburon Golf Course and hails from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

• Yankee Hill Country Club in Lincoln will play host to the 2003 Nebraska Girls' Junior Match Play Championship June 9-11. A field of forty girls will participate in the event, including defending champion Leigh Sutton of Lincoln.

• The Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame Awards Banquet was held on May 12th and the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame inducted into its honorary three members who have had a significant impact on the game of golf in the state. Thomas M Olson of Omaha, , Nanette Circo, who now resides in San Diego, California, and John Richard (Dick) Knight who passed away in 1991 in California. The 2003 Dr. Herbert H Davis Memorial Award which recognizes an individual who has contributed extensively to the game of golf from behind the scenes without proper recognition was presented to Steve Hogan of Omaha.

• The professionals prevailed over the amateurs in The Nebraska Cup Four-Ball Match held at Dakota Dunes. Ryan Nietfeldt and J.J. Sullivan, Pete Godwin and Jeff Tyrrell were undefeated in their matches against the professionals with Mike Schuchart and Jim White being the only undefeated professionals. With the Nebraska Golf Association members leading 20-16 into the afternoon singles matches the outcome was a little different. The professionals overwhelmed the amateurs with Kurt Osborn, James Sieckmann, Bret Taylor, and Jim White going undefeated in their matches. The final outcome was 39 _ - 32 _ in favor of the Nebraska Section PGA.

• The Iowa Senior Open will be played at Bent Tree Golf Club on August 22nd and 23rd. Bent Tree, in its short lifespan, has been host to prestigious tournaments including the 2002 and 2003 Metro Omaha Championships. Their constant regard for the customer and increased amenities are becoming well known in the metro area. If you haven't played this course you owe it to yourself to have some fun.

• If you haven't signed up for the 10th Annual Keep Omaha Beautiful Charity Golf Classic at beautiful Shadow Ridge, you still have some time. The tournament is June 30th and promises to be a great event. With excellent prizes and a catered meal it's a 'happening thing' for Omaha, and one that supports the very city we live in. Take the day off and be environmentally supportive.\
